Riverbend Latin
LATIN WEEK Return to Home.
Every year the RHS Latin Club celebrates Rome's
birthday (she'll be 2763 years old in 2010) by participating in National Latin
Week, sponsored by the National Junior Classical League and the Virginia Junior
Classical League.
2010
Activities for 2010 include:
- All week:
VJCL
Challenge Food Drive
- All Virginia chapters are encouraged to
participate in a
community service project to collect food for local food banks. The VJCL
chapter that collects the greatest number of items per capita will win
bragging rights and a "special award."
- At Riverbend, students are encouraged to
participate by donating non-perishable food items or baby products. For
every fifteen items donated by an individual student, he/she will receive a
"Just Say No" Homework Pass.
- Riverbend is challenging the other Latin
Clubs in the county to participate. The club that collects the most items
per capita will earn bragging rights AND receive gold crowns (painted paper
Burger King crowns) at the upcoming Spotsy Latin Kickball Tournament, at
which the losing teams will bow down to the winning team and chant, "We're
not worthy!"
- The final day for donations is Friday,
April 23. All items will be delivered to the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank
on Friday afternoon.

Information
- Tuesday, April 20: "Na-Cho Sword"
Movie and Nacho Party
- Welcome back to the Cinema Romana! The RHS
Latin Club will be showing
Gladiator (with Russell Crowe) after school, 2:30-5:00 p.m., in the
Latin Room.
- Since the movie is rated R,
all participants must have a permission slip signed by
his/her parent. The R rating is primarily for violence and blood
(usually the scene cuts away before impact).
- Refreshments for this activity will be
make-your-own nachos. The Latin Club will provide the tortilla chips and the
drinks, participants sign up to bring the toppings. Remember, if you don't
bring it, we ain't got it! See the sign-up sheet in the Latin Room to let us
know you are coming and what you will be bringing.
- Print out the
permission slip and have it signed.
No students will be admitted without a permission slip.
- Wednesday, April 21: "Toga! Toga! Toga!"
- All Latin students who where their toga to school and keep it on all day
will receive extra credit!
- You must wear appropriate clothes under your toga.
- Make sure you pick up a Teacher Toga Verification Slip (TTVS) and have
each teacher sign it for each block stating that you wore your toga to class
and kept it on.
- The only reasons for NOT wearing a toga but still receiving credit is: A)
You are in gym and have to dress out (but wouldn't a toga still look cool over
that gym uniform?!), and/or B) You have a science lab and are working with
acid and/or fire. We don't want any Latin students bursting into flame!
- Wednesday, April 21: "A Kickin' BBQ"
Information to be updated soon.
- Wednesday, April 21 (for B-day) and
Thursday, April 22 (for A-day): "Felicem Diem Natalem, Roma!"
Information to be updated soon.
- Thursday, April 22: "Bowling in Togas"
Information to be updated soon.
